I would hope that Christians would shape up and treat others with respect, regardless of whether they agree or not. For the most part, Christians do this, but there are those that give the group a bad name.

Some people will say that it's perfectly normal and no more immoral than being straight (i.e.: not at all). Religious fundamentalists, especially Christians and Muslims, will often say that God forbids homosexuality. Some people will say that it is disgusting and unnatural. Some people do not have an opinion.

The majority of scientific evidence suggests that homosexuality cannot be controlled any more than, for example, eye colour, but this evidence is far from conclusive and is heatedly disputed. It is ridiculous to assume that there were two cities with only gay inhabitants, especially as they would have no children and so the entire population would die off within one generation. Also, there is a mistranslation in the passage that changes the meaning considerably. Regardless, both books also say "love your neighbour as you love yourself" (twice in the Bible) and the Bible also says "judge not lest ye be judged" and "love the sinner but hate the sin."

Therefore, discrimination against gay people is a sin, regardless of whether homosexuality itself is or isn't. There are non-religious people who consider homosexuality immoral. This is generally because they have been raised to believe this and because of the sexist idea that women need men to protect them. It is hard to argue that something people cannot control can be immoral and gay people all agree that they cannot control their sexuality, though some straight people dispute that; i think it would be best to assume that it is perfectly acceptable unless presented with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Those who use the bible to back up their bias against gay people have not fully read or understood the bible. There are only a handful of statements in the bible about homosexual behavior, and most of them are in the old testament. Many of the proscriptions against homosexual behavior are in Leviticus; if one is going to insist homosexuality is wrong based on these passages then one must also insist that wearing cloth woven of two different kinds of thread is wrong.

The bible has been used to justify or condemn countless activities, beliefs, creeds, races and behaviors. To claim there is only one way to interpret the bible is naive: there are clearly many, many different ways of interpreting the bible. If there were not, then why are there so many different factions of Christianity? To use the bible as any sort of yardstick of moral behavior today is to willfully ignore the hundreds of thousands of ways human beings have matured and evolved as intelligent, social and spiritual beings. We no longer believe that mice spontaneously grow out of piles of dirty rags. We can leave behind many of the myths of biblical 'morality' as well.

Homosexuality has been in existence as long as recorded history. It exists in rich variety in both the human and animal population. How could something so prevalent be wrong? It's like saying left-handedness is wrong.

So how it happens to be included in a true reading of the particular biblical passage should make you ponder how accurate the interpretation actually is. It would not have even appeared in the King James version. Chances are pretty likely the modern concept of "homosexual" wasn't even in anyone's vaguest imaginings 2000 years ago.

    My final point would be to suggest you check out the documentary "For The Bible Tells Me So" and check out what it says about "Bible Literalism" and which has numerous biblical scholars explaining the conflicting Biblical interpretations.

In the bible, there are several references that shun homosexual acts, and homosexuality in general. It's generally thought by Christians to be unnatural and very lustful (something frowned upon). However, it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad; the bible says homosexual acts are sinful, but simply being attracted to the same sex isn't. This is because you are not punished for being tempted- everyone is- but you're punished by how you react to temptation. Thus, if you are homosexual, BUT never engage in homosexual acts, you aren't necessarily condemned. But if you happen to choose not to live sad and lonely your whole life, and find true love, Christianity believes that God condemns you for this.
