Lemurs are legal to own in Texas but you always have to check local city laws to see if a permit is required. They can not travel out of Texas or cross state lines. They have to be bred by a USDA licensed breeder and you can not buy one from a breeder outside of Texas and bring it here.

However, it is not a good idea to get a ring-tailed lemur as a pet. Although they look cute, they require a special diet that most people can't provide; they require specialized veterinary care (most vets won't treat them); they can catch and transmit many of the same diseases you catch (because they are primates); they will scent-mark, pee, and poop all around the house (and cannot be trained out of it); they *require* constant companionship with another ring-tailed lemur (otherwise they become neurotic); and they can become aggressive and bite (requiring a hospital visit and usually IV antibiotics).
