An abnormally high white blood cell count can indicate infection, inflammation, tissue damage, leukemia or several other things. However, a high white blood cell count is considered normal under certain circumstances - such as during late pregnancy.
If the count is abnormally high, further tests will probably be done and the numbers of each type of white blood cell will be determined. This helps narrow down the possible causes.
There are many different causes for an increased white blood cell count, so it is best to discuss the results with your doctor - they will let you know if it is dangerous, and if any further tests or action needs to be taken.
