Good one, but I'm afraid that in some cases it is illegal to download games if they are already marketed and did not intend to have any demos or trials on the internetSpore, a game by EA and Maxis, had a free trial, but still, some games do not. When someone offers you a deal, don't accept it unless you want to be arrested someday.

However, there are some games that are 100% safe and free that you can get right off the Internet like online multiplayer Board Games. Occasionally, the people who made these also sell versions with more features off the shelves for a very cheap price.

Don't steal or pirate games if the original company who created the game did not mention that this is alright.

Yes it is, but you also cant EVER go on xbox LIVE if you donwload and burn Xbox 360 games and if you try you will be banned from xbox LIVE 4 ever!

Not necessarily.

If the emulator contains no copyrighted material and you are properly licensed for it (which may include "the guy who wrote it is giving it away for free"), there is nothing inherently illegal about downloading or even using an emulator.

It may be a violation of the End User Licensing Agreement you implicitly "agreed" to when you purchased the game or program you're using the emulator with, and if the emulator requires copyrighted data (such as a BIOS) to work that might be a violation of some licensing agreement as well. This is a legally gray area, because the legality of at least some EULAs is, shall we say, questionable.

Downloading (or otherwise obtaining) BIOS or ROM data for something you have not actually purchased without the consent of the copyright holder, however, is pretty clearly illegal by any rational definition, and no, there is no "24 hour rule." (If the copyright holder is not interested in enforcing his copyright... so-called "abandonware"... you may not actually be hurting anybody, but it's still technically illegal.)

Downloading a Copyrighted game is illegal in most countries. There are a few countries in the world that do not support International Copyright Laws nor do they have laws that deny you to download Copyrighted digital material.

As a general rule of thumb - yes.

If you own a copy of the game, you may have an additional copy for backup purposes if your country laws allow it.

US & Canada - yes
