While this may be unethical and a bad idea, there is no law that specifically prohibits pretending to be someone else in social messaging. If you seek any financial gain or illicit illegal activity, it could be a crime. Further, you may create a civil wrong against the person you are pretending to be.
I believe that it is illegal to pretend to be someone else that actually exists. However, if you are pretending to be no specific person, and just lying about your description, it's perfectly fine. It is also illegal to pretend to be a Doctor, or any other authority figure. By the way, as long as you are not DIRECTLY disguising yourself as someone (I.E your best friend), it's legal.
