From what I know in Maine anyway, they don't like it when you do. When snow gets on the road after the plow driver has come by, and some one is going fast down the road, when they hit that little bit of snow in the road they can loose control. So i guess what i am saying is, i would not do it, as far as i know you can get fined for it

∙ 13y agoIt depends on who is plowing the snow over the mailbox. If you are an individual, it is not legal to hinder a mail delivery person from delivering mail. However, if you are the county snowplower and you cover up a mail box, it becomes the resident's responsibility to clear a path to the mailbox for mail delivery. If the mailbox is covered with snow and the mail delivery is impeded, then the mail goes back to the post office for pickup. After some period of time, if the mail is not claimed, it will be returned to sender.
One way to keep it clear is to attach a snow plow to an ATV or UTV. Using a small all terrain vehicle is easy and quite maneuverable in tight places. If you need to move more snow, you can always attach a snow plow to a truck and move the snow. You might also want to get a salt spreader and spread a layer of salt after you plow. This will make it better for the mail delvery person to reach your mailbox.
