Some mother cats will do just that but not as a rule, they will feel the loss of one of their kittens the same as a human would feel, this is why there is saying that some people use to describe an "unfit mother" Cats make better mothers than her!" not a nice saying , but there it is.

What if your cat just had kittens and now is very protective and attacks other animals even when the kittens are not around?

Answer: Mother cats are often defensive and agressive. When the kittens grow up and the mother cat stops caring for them, her behavior should return to normal.

Can kittens die if it is to humid out?

I live in southern Texas and my cat just had kittens. The kittens will pant like a dog, that's normal. I don't think humidity will KILL them, but if your worried just put fan by the kittens. You can also bring the kittens in the house with their mother for a while. the kittens die because they feel like it, gosh. is it that hard to understand?

How pet cats raise their babies?

Kittens are born deaf, blind, toothless and completely dependant on the mother. The mother cat will feed them, clean them and lick under their tails to encourage them to toilet for the first four weeks of their lives. When the kittens are around three weeks old, kittens will begin to open their eyes, their hearing will develop and their milk teeth will start to come through. By four weeks, kittens are finding their feet. By six to eight weeks, kittens will start taking an interest their mother's food and should already be exploring the litter box. Kittens at this age learn what to do from their mother. Even during and after weaning, some kittens will still suckle from the mother. This is completely normal. Socialisation also starts around this time, and the kittens will continue to learn as late as twelve weeks old - which is one of the reasons kittens should stay with their mother and siblings until this time. These skills teach the kittens manners, not to be too rough in play (biting and scratching hurts!) and generally how to behave around other cats and people.

Is it normal for my cats' first litter of 4 to all die within a week?

No, it is not normal at all. There are several reasons why this may have happened, from fleas (fleas can actually kill tiny kittens), to health issues with either the mother or the kittens, or the mother just couldn't cope in looking after them well. It is ideal to spay your cat as soon as you can so this doesn't happen again.

Your cat is not attentive to her kittens is this normal?

it is perfectly normal. usually what happens is that she leaves the kittens alone so she can provide them whatever they need.

Is it normal for my cat that just had kittens to be sitting away from them but in the same room and will she feed them?

You need to take your cat and kittens to the vet immediately. New kittens always need veterinary attention. Also, you will need to get the mother spayed to avoid new litters. There are too many homeless cats being put to death every single day. no this is not normal, when a cat first has kittens they are over protected of their young. if the cat is not next to the kittens then it is more likely that she will not feed them.. the only time that the cat does not feed their young is when she does not recognize their scent. which mean the kitten was tuched by a human or another animal before the mother had a chance to recognize their scent. Hope this helps!

Why would a feral mother cat eat one of her two month old kittens?

The mother cat's behavior is completely normal. Kitten corpses cannot lay around because of the potential for disease and attracting other predators. Survival instincts and maternal instinct to protect her other kittens wins on this one.

What to due when a male cat bites a kitten behind the head?

it is normal for a female to bite the back of the kittens neck when they want to move them to a place that they think is safe, but a male? if the male is the kittens father then he may be trying to be like the mother but normally the father doesn't want anything to do with the kittens and if he isn't related to the kittens, then he doesn't like them and is trying to hurt them or even kill them, in some cases.

what to do when mother cat leaves 5 week old kittens?

At five weeks old, the kittens should start the weaning process. Start introducing canned food to them, or a watered down normal kibble. You can also start teaching them to use the litterbox now!
