Is it normal for a 1993 VW Passat GLX fan to run excessively hard after 15 minutes of driving with AC in medium moving traffic?

Hey Dwayne==The fan is thermostatically controled if it runs long it must need it. GoodluckJoe

Yes. From my experience with an identical year/model Passat, the fans will run at high speed in traffic. The fans are set to come on automatically as soon as the AC is turned on, since the AC condensor needs cooling and in-turn, makes the radiator have to work harder. If your system kicks into the high speed mode, it just means that the entire system needed additional cooling.
