What if your period last longer than usual?

It depends on how much longer it is lasting, on average a menstrual period will last 4-7 days but a little longer than this is normal - this is especially true if you're in your pre-teens or teens when hormonal irregularity can cause irregular bleeding. If you are using hormonal birth control such as the pill also bare in mind that irregular bleeding is normal for the first three months while your body adjusts to going from your normal cycle to being on the pill. If bleeding continues over 14 days, or if you are going through a super absorbency tampon or pads within an hour, then go to your doctor to get medication to stop the bleeding.
