Each time a Betta flares and puts on a display it is reputed to shorten his lifespan. I would not advise anyone to place a mirror permanently in view of a male Betta because the fish would obviously feel under constant threat and could easily die from stress.

∙ 6y agobettas are aggressive to other bettas. when they see themselves in a mirror they think it is another betta. the bettas instinct is to look a lot bigger by opening their gills and spreading their fins out and most of the time they fight to the death by nipping at each other.
