When your cat has it's back to you clap your hands together really loud. If the cat's ears don't at least flicker then they didn't hear you. You could also drop something on the floor (such as a book) behind them and see if you get the same reaction. It's best to take your cat to the vet to be diagnosed properly. It's very important to check this out with the vet if your cat is allowed outside. If the cat is deaf he won't hear his natural enemies come up behind him/her. Marcy
On that same note, a cat not responding to you (as stated above) does not always mean deafness. Definitely go to the vet. I was certain my year old cat was deaf when I adopted her, but after a visit to the vet I learned she had accumulated balls of wax in both ears so large that they were actually blocking her ear canals, which is why she could not hear. Evidently this problem is not all that uncommon, especially among cats whom have been living in large shelters. A simple extraction done by the vet fixes it, but it can be a lifelong, reoccurring problem.
You wouldn't want to drop the book behind it because it could feel the vibrations through the floor
No, not all white cats are deaf, nor to they "go" deaf. However, white cats with blue are more likely to be born deaf, but that doesn't mean that every blue-eyed white cat is deaf.
The cats that tend to be deaf are not just white cats, they are white cats that have blue eyes. They are considered albinos, which in cats can cause deafness.
Yes, but if a cat heard a noise that would make us deaf, it would not become deaf because of wave frequency.
Iy is not possible to keep frogs quiet unless you kill them.
Make a lot of noise. Make a big deal out of it. Scream so that they get scared. Eventually they will connect the two. Bit on human equals loud, scary noise.
No, not all blue eyed cats are deaf. If any any are then it is usually a condition brought about by some defect within the cats ears at birth. There is a more likelihood of an albino cat being born deaf. It doesn't mean having blue eyes makes you deaf.
The mew cat sound rhymes with chew. Rather than calling it a meow, some people call the noise that a cat noise sounds like mew.
They have very good hearing and excellent sight.
No it means they heard a loud noise.
White cats with blue eyes have been known to be deaf.
Well they usually are born deaf but develop their hearing at about ten days old. But if the cat is white with blue eyes if it isn't a rare type of cat, it is deaf. If one of the parents are deaf there is a 50/50 chance that the kittens are going to be deaf.

If it has blue eyes it's usually deaf. Or, if it has one blue eye, the ear on the side with the blue eye is deaf.
It depends, how is the cat meowing?
I think so, because my grandma had an old cat that I'm pretty sure was deaf. Or you could get a cat and see! O.o

A Storm Cat 800 watt generator has a decimal rating of between 190 to 265 decibels depending on load and amperage. This is enough noise pollution to cause hearing damage after twenty minutes of exposure.
Hmmm... you might have a cat in side your car! If the cat is lying in your car then when you press the horn its actually touching the cat and its the cat that you are hearing. OR you dont press the horn hard enough!! glad we could help! justin&caitlin
