I suggest you not to visit Syria at this moment. The Syrian Dictatorship is "waging war" against "Sunni terrorists", which are actually pro-democracy peaceful protesters. The Arab Spring have pretty much opened the Pandora's Box in that country. Just wait until Assad gets toppled and new democratic political order forms.
