No. There are no magical transmitters or receivers in the human brain that can send signals between individuals - awake or asleep - without some sort of device such as a cell phone.

It's possible. I fell asleep thinking of my friend because we had talked just before on the phone. I woke up the next morning from a strange dream about her. When she called me on the phone a few hours later she repeated to me the same dream I had.

Like thoughts, dreams cannot be magically transmitted from one person's brain to anyone else without some form of communication: speaking, writing or using a device such as a cell phone. If "Mary" falls asleep thinking about a "Johnny," Mary might dream of Johnny. But Mary's thoughts will not be sent magically through the night to influence Johnny's dreams.

No, dreaming about someone does not mean that person was thinking of the dreamer. Dreams originate within the subconscious (unconscious) mind of the dreamer. Just as it is impossible to plant thoughts in another person's mind just by thinking about them, dreams cannot be affected by another person's thoughts or dreams.

In such a case, I consider it much more likely that you think about that person unconsciously, and that this will surface while you are asleep.

it could be that you were thinking of her before you fell asleep because if someone is on your mind before you fall asleep sometimes you dream them. but the real question is how do you feel toward your friend's ex? again if you are constantly thinking about someone or something you may dream her/him or it. if you were not thinking about this person at all then maybe it was just one of those weird dreams. not to worry everyone has strange dreams they don't understand.
