What is a multiparty system and how does it affect governing?

A system in which multiple political parties have the capacity to gain control of government separately or in coalition; In multiparty systems, one party rarely gets enough support to control the government. Then several parties join together to obtain a majority and then form a coalition government. When groups with different ideologies share power, coalitions break down requiring new elections. As a result of this, many nations with multiparty systems are politically unstable. However, multiparty system also allow for better ideological representation of voters, resulting in policy that reflects voter interests better.

What is legalized corruption?

Legalized corruption includes any sort of corruption of the political or economic system that is not against the law. For example, during political campaigns, many parties contribute to a candidate's re-election campaign and implicitly get political consideration with future bills. So, for a small legalized bribe of several thousands dollars, a bill can be passed which will increase the profits of the donating party by hundreds of thousands, or millions. Sometimes these perks are instead offered through the push of expensive public works projects tendered through contracts with specifications focusing on the one donating party, so that real competition for the contact does not exist. Other times bills are passed to increase regulations on competitors, making it harder for other companies to compete or enter the market space. Another possibility of legalized corruption is job offers, paid speaking engagements, or other perks paid to an elected official. For example, a regulator who chooses to not pursue criminal investigation or reforms too hard against some parties may be rewarded by those parties with lucrative job offers once they leave office, often as a 'consultant'.

What is a list of the four major linkage institutions in US politics?

The four main linkage institutions are elections, political parties, interest groups and the media. 1. Elections allow people to get involved and have a voice in the political system 2. Media lets the people know about almost everything that goes on in the govt. 3. Lobby groups: that is - sets of non governmental bodies who can represent our specific interests during any period of government e.g. workers groups (unions) business groups (chambers of commerce) agricultural interests (farmers groups) impoverished and marginalised people ( the several groups who work to represent their interests) etc 4. Political parties (in Australia: Liberals/ Greens/Labour). In USA they would be Republicans/ Democrats and further minor parties, so that after any one group's period in government we, the sovereign people, have a ready made alternative group who are capable, ready, and informed enough for us to move to when we disagree with the government we earlier elected.

What are types of political scientists?

Political Science can be defined in several ways. The consensus of the vast majority of political scientists terms itself as the study of governments and how they work. From that starting point the political scientist can be involved with other areas within this field. Note: Many people are under the assumption that a political scientist is all about elections and politicians. This does not go to the heart of what political science is all about at all. Also, political science is normally studied at the collegiate level. Here are some examples of what political scientists study and publish books about: A. The study of governments of the past & present; this entails the study of history, political philosophy, and geo-political situations. B. Political science also interacts with economics and sociology; C. Political scientists may be generalists or specialize in national & international politics; D. Political scientists may also specialize in a single country's government or study a vast array of governments; E. Political scientists are not "election" specialists, but they may be consulted about how a government structure may lend itself to certain electorate behaviors; F. As the subject of the question relates to types of political scientists, one can not overlook that a central type is a professor who teaches political science.

Why does Indonesia have so many political parties?

There are several factors which have caused the large number of political parties in Indonesia. Firstly, some parties are based on particular sections of society, and thus several parties have emerged that represent these sections of society. Secondly, Indonesia is a relatively new democracy, and hence there was much excitement post-1998 about creating and joining political parties. There has also been less time for particular parties to consolidate and become more powerful. Thirdly, political parties are the only way to get into parliament or to become President, so a number of powerful figures have created their own political parties to seek more political power. And Lastly, but most importantly, Indonesia has a Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system, which presents lower barriers for parties to gain seats than Single Member District (SMD) electoral systems. If Indonesia used SMD then there would likely be a significant reduction in the number of parties.
