First of all, that's a good question. People usually say there is no such thing as a stupid question so as to get others to relax and open up about any doubts they have; that's a good thing. However, don't make the mistake of believing that there are no stupid questions because of that. First, in absolute terms, universally stupid questions do exist. For example, if you asked if eggs grow trees, and meant it in a non-sarcastic way, you should not be surprised if others regard you with incredulity. Second, and much more commonly, you may not be asking a stupid question, but rather a newbie one, but others will take the chance to show their superiority by insulting you for asking what they think is an elementary question. Responses might include "read the f*cking manual" (RTFM), "Google it" or their disdain might come out in the tone of their voice or body language. So be warned, while it is quite difficult for an ordinary person under ordinary circumstances to ask a truly stupid question, be aware that many others will try to turn it into one so that they can boost their egos at your expense.
