Strictly speaking, he said that the kinds of powers he wants to give himself would be in order to create a unitary state Dictatorship of which Hitler's Germany is a good example. So, while he technically did not say that he wants the same or similar powers to Hitler, he has claimed that the goal that he wants for his regime is for it to be similar in function to Hitler's.

What did Hitler call himself before he was president?

He was never "President", although Germany has had a President since the end of World War I, and still has one. Hitler's first government position was when he was appointed Chancellor in January 1933; prior to then, he was just the leader of the Nazi Party, and was never elected or appointed to any office. After President Hindenburg died in August 1934, no new President was elected. Instead, Hitler just took the powers of the presidency along with the chancellorship, and gave himself the new title of "Führer" (German for "leader"). He held the title of Führer until his death in 1945.

Why did the president not do anything about Hitler?

This question is kind of misleading since Hitler was the "Reichspraesident" and the "Reichskanzler" in one person. In 1934 he himself combined those two authorities after being named Reichskanzler in 1933.

Why was Hitler killing people similar to himself?

You need to explain what you mean by 'similar to himself'. ^They mean why was he killing Jews when he was partially Jewish himself. Well for one, he was insane? But he viewed the Jews as a blight to humanity, along with gypsies, Jehovah's witnesses, cripples, and the mentally impaired. He was convinced that they should be exterminated.
