No. It does cost to upgrade from either. Prices are currently expensive (depending on where you live too) but are expected to drop significantly in the next few months.
Hope this helps :D
"Most computer manufacturers are offering free upgrades for anyone that bought a computer after June 26, 2009. Proof of purchase is required from some of these manufacturers. Also, you may be required to pay for shipping and handling."
It is totally worth upgrading to Windows 7. Windows 7 is much faster than Windows Vista, because of some memory management and service issues in Windows Vista. I think Windows 7 is easier to use because of the interface. However some might disagree, because some people are used to Windows XP and Windows Vista has kept that interface. Windows 7 does have some features like Aero Peek or Aero Snap or Aero Shake, which helps the user to be quick. Windows 7 also has the same system requirements as Windows Vista. So if your computer is running Windows Vista, it has a high chance that it is compatible with Windows 7.
Overall, I think it is totally worth it upgrading to Windows 7. It seems much simpler and easier to use, and also faster. I had a terrible experience in Windows Vista and sometimes even wondered why Microsoft created that operating system. Even Windows XP was faster.
No it isn't, you have to buy it or be given a valid product key and installation disc or else it's piracy.
