The term Intrinsic denotes a characteristic or property of some thing or action which is essential and specific to that thing or action, and which is wholly independent of any other object, action or consequence. A characteristic which is not essential or inherent is extrinsic.

In the physical sciences, we talk of intensive (as opposed to intrinsic) and extensive (as opposed to extrinsic) properties of things or systems. Intensive properties are independent of the amount or quantity of something. Density, therefore, is an intensive property, inasmuch as a substance's density is the same regardless how much of it you have. Contrast density with weight, for example, which varies as the amount of a substance varies.

An intrinsic property is a property that an object or a thing has of itself, independently of other things, including its context.

An extrinsic (or relational) property is a property that depends on a thing's relationship with other things. For example, mass is a physical intrinsic property of any physical object, whereas weight is an extrinsic property that varies depending on the strength of the gravitational field in which the respective object is placed.

Density is intrinsic because it remains the same regardless of how much of an item you have. A ton of iron has the same density as a pound of it.

Why mass is an example of extrinsic property?

Mass is an example of an extrinsic property, because an extrinsic property is one that varies with and depends on the size and amount of the sample. Obviously, the more of the sample you have, the greater will be the mass. Thus, mass is an extrinsic property. Compare this to density. It doesn't matter how much of the sample you have, the density will be the same. Density is an intrinsic property.

W=mgIt is influenced by mass and acceleration of a body.Mass is intrinsic, it is real property of matter.Weight is extrinsic, it is modifiable property of matter.

What is the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic sugars?

The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic sugars is that intrinsic sugars are sugars that occur naturally in the cellular structure of food while extrinsic sugars are added or are free in food. Intrinsic sugars are mostly found in fruits and vegetables. Extrinsic sugars are divided into milk sugars or lactose and non milk extrinsic sugars which are added sugar and honey. - Intrinsic motivation is your own personal motivation that comes from inside you.
