Is religion weakened by academics?

Another answer from our community:

Religion, specifically Christianity is not weakened by academics but by unbelief.

The Christian faith can encourage knowledge and inquiry, but many choose to pursue this in a way which violates Christian belief. Many academics are Christian and pursue their field in a way which, according to the bible, is pleasing to God, gives Him glory and helps people.

The role of academics involves the pursuit of knowledge and inquiry, and the pursuit of knowledge can indeed violate Christian belief. As academics such as historians, archaeologists, scientists, linguists and others uncover facts that disprove aspects of traditional belief, religion is inevitably weakened.

When this happens, there is no way around the consequences. Either we recognise the truth, wherever it lies, or we deliberately deceive ourselves simply to protect fondly held beliefs.
