While South America has made amazing economic strides in the last two decades, I think the countries can still be described as "developing" countries - even with mega cities such as Buenos Aires, Rio and Brasilia.

Large expansive areas of jungle and mountains. Although the coastal areas of Brazil near Sao Paulo are some of the densest populated areas in the world.

South America is a great tourist location, especially Rio De Janeiro. Much of South America has many poverty areas. Political turmoil in many South American countries is one of the causes.
