Theologically, there are many similarities between Lutheran and Methodist beliefs. Both are strongly Bible-based denominations, with strong Bible teaching based on issues of faith rather than "religious experiences", which some denominations may focus upon. Differences are going to arise more in the details and celebration of Holy Communion.

To a Baptist or a non-Christian, like a Mormon or a Jehovah Witness, they might look similar, but they are actually worlds apart and the Lutheran has far more in common with the Baptist, or even the Mormon and the J.W. then the Catholic faith for the simple reason that the Catholic faith believes in Our Blessed Lord and what He taught and revealed, and teaches and reveals in His Church. All of the other faiths mentioned determine what they want to believe due to inner lights or some such, not direct revelation from God and His Church.
