There are two different types of IMAX Theatres, IMAX domed theatres and IMAX flat-screened theatres. IMAX domed theatres have the image on a domed shaped screen in a generally circular room so that the image is projected in front, above, and to the left and right of you. IMAX flat screened theatres are like a larger version of a standard movie screen. IMAX flat screens have the capability to show 3D movies, unlike domes screened theatres.

IMAX is a film corporation that distributes 15/70 mm films, which are larger than the movies distributed at your local theatre. This allows the films to be projected at a much larger level than that of a regular theatre. Usually, an IMAX theatre fills the almost the entire wall with the screen, instead of just a fraction of the wall. An IMAX Dome theatre is where you sit in the middle, and the picture is projected all around you.The bulb that is used to project the movie is also unlike that of a standard movie theatre. The projection bulb is a super bright Xenon Bulb which is 15,000 watts.

I suggest you try out the Imax theatre in SM Mall of Asia.
This depends on the individual theatre, but can range anywhere from 3-8.
Every film house operates its business using a different compliment of equipment. You may be able to find an IMAX theatre with a separate and different 70MM projector. (IMAX film requires an IMAX 70MM projector.) As you can read, below, "...Conventional 70 mm systems were not steady enough for the 586× magnification."
