You most likely have some sort of problem with the new one. If it is the Longstrike, Recon, or Longshot, try removing the barrel. If it is anything else, than your old Nerf gun is really well-made and you should give kudos to whoever got it for you or whatever store you bought it from.

What Nerf gun should you get?
If you like to go on the kill, use the Raider Rapid Fire CS-35. If you want to guard a base use the Vulcan EBF-25 and Titan as-v.1. If you are more for close combat, use smaller pistols (Nite Finder, Maverick REV-6, and the 3-1 pistol from Titan as-v.1) Dart tag sets are good for duels. The Rapid Fire Twenty is for med-range. Recon CS-6 is a great rifle. You can use a drum with the Longshot(Longstrike), Recon, and Raider. So do clips. Mag strike is god for rapid-fire. Attack Unit is close-combat. That is about all the Nerf guns so far
