The enamel contains no living cells, but the teeth are supplied with nerves and blood vessels. However, those nerves and blood vessels can be removed during a root canal and the tooth will be dead, yet still function for chewing.

Most of a tooth is living tissue. The root and its nerves are fed by arteries in the same way as any other organ. Calcium from the blood stream is carried to the dentin where it is used to grow the tooth enamel from the inside. The enamel consists of hollow tubules, like drinking straws packed closely together. As the tooth biting surfaces wear down, they are replaced with new enamel. (The purpose of fluoride is to close the tubules against bacteria, which can erode the enamel if they grow and feed on food residues.)

When a crown (cap) is placed on a tooth, the outer enamel-producing cells are removed, but the inner root is still alive and firmly anchored in bone. If a root canal is performed, the living tissue is removed and replaced with a rubber compound. The only thing that anchors a tooth with a root canal is the firm grip of the bone on the existing root. Where this is insufficient, teeth may be "splinted" or physically attached to adjacent living teeth.

The bone can be both living and non-living. The living part would be the marrow and the blood vessels etc. that make up the bone and the non-living part would be the calcium that makes up the bone. If you've ever seen a dead animals bone it looks all dried up and shriveled because there are no nutrients to keep it "alive" and no blood is able to have access to it. So the bone is both living and non-living. :)
