No. The first year of a leap year always ends in a 01, and not 00, as some people think. A year ending in 01 is not divisible by 4, so it can never be a leap year. 2001 was not a leap year for example. If you meant to ask about years ending in 00, like 2000, then they are only leap years if they are divisible by 400. So 1900 and 2100 are not leap years, but 2000 is a leap year.

The first year of a century (1801, 1901, 2001, 2101 ..) is never a leap year.

The first century of the common era began on January 1, 1 AD and ended on December 31, 100 AD. Thus the first year of a century always ends in a '1'.

With all due respect, while the above answer is completely accurate, I believe that the computational aspect of the original answer should remain:

In the Gregorian Calendar,

If the year is evenly divisible by 4, then it is a leap year,

UNLESS the year is evenly divisible by 100, then it is not,

UNLESS the year is evenly divisible by 400, then it is.

Is the year 1200 a century leap year?

Yes! It was a century leap year. Other century leap years are 1600 and 2000. The next one will probably be 2400, and along with another century leap year, 2800, that is true. The next century leap year will occur in 2400. Century leap years always start on a Saturday and the February 29 intercalation in these days is always a Tuesday to being that year.

When are the leap years in the 21st century?

2012 was the third leap year in the 21st century. The 21st century started in 2001, not in 2000 as some people believe, so 2004 was the first leap year, 2008 was the second leap year and 2012 was the third leap year.

Is the next leap year in 2100?

Yes, 2100 is the only year this century in which the every-four-year pattern of leap years will be broken. Then from 2104 until 2196 they will be every four years again. 2200 and 2300 will be regular years like 2100.

Was 1904 the first leap year of the twentieth century?

Yes - the previous multiple of 4, 1900, as a year divisible by 100, would also require to be divisible by 400 in order to be a leap year - which it is not. While 2000 is divisible by 400, 2100, 2200 and 2300 are not, and therefore none of those three will be a leap year. 1900 was also the last year of the 19t century, so 1904 would've been the first leap year ever of the 20th century regardless if 1900 was a leap year or not. Even if 1900 was a triple leap year because it was divisible by 475, anything else would've been ignored by the time 1905 came.
