natural selection
Cellular division.
Organisms have adapted to the environment through evolution process, over the millions of years. So there structures are closely related to the need of environment.
Natural Selection
Here are seven:Order- All characteristics are a result of an organisms ordered structureReproduction- Organisms will reproduce their own kind; life comes from lifeGrowth & Development- DNA directs the pattern of growth and development, producing an organism that is characteristic of its speciesEnergy Utilization- Organisms take in energy though various methods and make it usableResponse to the Environment- Organisms will respond to stimuliHomeostasis- An organisms internal environment is regulated by mechanisms to cope with an imbalanceEvolutionary Adaption- Organisms will evolve due to changes in environment and interaction with other organisms

I believe what you're referring to is natural selection. In short, yes it does. Certain organisms have characteristics that allow them to survive more efficiently in a certain environment than other organisms of the same species. As a result, these organisms survive to reproduce, thus passing on these efficient variations to their offspring, and so the cycle continues. The organism without these variations is less likely to survive, meaning it will be unable to reproduce and pass on it's characteristics. Eventually, this will cycle out the characteristics or variations that aren't adequate for surviving in said environment, and only the well-equipped will survive. This process is more commonly known as "survival of the fittest."
natural selection
This is designated as the organisms fitness.

Mitosis :)
So organisms can procreate and actually fulfill their biological purpose to survive and reproduce. Meiosis is the process in which some organisms reproduce.
The process of meiosis.
