The Saxophone is a fairly easy instrument to play, most people learn to play it in a year or so. Remember, to be a good instrumentalist you have to practice.

*edit* I apologise to however wrote the previous answer, but you're a little idiotic. The saying is that the saxophone is the easiest to learn and the hardest to master.

Words of wisdom from the man above me :) I have been playing the sax for 6 years now, its tricky to get usd to, you have 26 keys, but don't let that number frighten you! Practice, Practice Practice and you will know how to play every note on that sax. If your just starting out, I recommend going to your local music shop, and talking with the clerk about some suggestions on books for beginners. Practice a little everyday, and the sax will seem like a cakewalk in no time.

This depends very much on the person themselves and whether they have any relevant music or playing experience.

Generally the saxophone is one of the easier woodwind instruments to play, as long as the players hands are large enough to span the keys. The keywork and fingering on a saxophone is simpler than a Clarinet or double reed instrument and has most in common with the Flute fingering.

The following comesfrom someone who plays it:

No.

I think the fingerings are pretty simple (your hands are right over top of the keys you're supposed to push) and all you have to do is blow (no fingers is actually a note).

Also, the fingerings work ina pattern, which goes like this, over and over again:

pointer, middle, + ring ->

pointer + middle ->

pointer ->

middle ->

none

Saxes aregenerally not too heavy, though it depends on the type, and some hang from your neck while some rest on the floor.

Also, if you're bad at doingmultiple thingsat the same time

(like on the piano, where your right hand's playing one tune while your left'splayinganother and your feet arepumping the pedal and sometimes you're singing)

the saxophone is good because all your body's working on one song. If you are good at doing lots of stuff simultaneously, you'll think it's super simple.

Those are the basics. Though it does have its drawbacks, it is generally quite easy to play -- and once you know the fingerings for one type of saxophone, you know how to play ALL saxophones (which is cool).

It's not hard, but I suggest playing a Tenor Saxophone first.

~

DO NOT PLAY TENOR SAX FIRST! It is in a different key! BARI SAX IS REALLY EASY FOR YOU TO PLAY! But if you want to play another saxophone first, if any, you should play Alto! Because they are both in the key of E-flat! Tenor sax is in the key of B-flat!

Definitely! Start on the alto, then, if you get good, go to the tenor or soprano or baritone or bass or contrabass or subcontrabass:)

If you already play the saxophone what is a good instrument to pick up?

The flute, because it has the exact same notes as the alto sax, but if its the tenor, then im not sure. The tenor has the same fingerings as an alto, but different notes. If you want the same fingerings, i would suggest the recorder.

Which saxophone is best?

There is no way to chose which saxophone is the best due to the wide range of saxophones. The first step is to chose what type, most people chose an alto saxophone. Then it depends on what type of music you are playing, but if you are looking for an all-around good Alto Saxophone the Yamaha-875EX (Custom) is one of the most popular. However, there are other great saxophones out there, so you'll need to decide which is best for you on your own.

What kind of saxophone should a sixth grade band player play?

You should play the either the alto saxophone or the tenor saxophone. The alto is a good size and most 6th graders play this type. The tenor is a little bigger, but not beyond reason. It is less common but just as easy to play.

What do you need to play a alto saxophone?

As a saxophone player myself, I can tell you that you don't need much to play the instrument. I suggest:A neck strapReeds (Around #2 reeds if you are a beginner)An saxophone (obviously)A mouthpieceA saxophone cleaner (basically a wipe on a string)That's about it. Of course music would come in handy, but if you're just practicing getting the notes out then there's no need yet. Good luck!

How do you play a c flat on a alto saxophone?

As on any instrument, C flat is one half step below C natural, and sounds the same as B. There are good technical reasons why a note might be notated as a C flat, but just play B.

What is good about the saxophone?

This is my opinion. I think that the saxophone is a very complicated instrument. I wouldn't recommend it to ppl who want a soothing instrument. Saxophone has a more of a blaring sound. But some people like it. I personally like the flute better. Its sound is sooo much more soothing and relaxing.
