yes, the assassin's creed was real but was actually called the ancient order of the hasashim. Masyaf (the assassin's castle and kingdom) is real and still stands today, however has sadly been sieged to a ruin of its former beauty, medieval paintings and such clearly document its elegance and supreme height.

The game is even accurate to the white cloaks they wore. The history of their weaponry is undocumented as far as my knowledge spans however a little research on the topic might unearth some fascinating informaton.

fictitious, however, they take place in real places and real times. There are some famous events, and some of the characters are real people (such as Niccolo Machiavelli), but the series is entirely fictitious.
