There is no way to connect a pen drive to a DVD player if there is no USB port. Some newer televisions have USB ports installed on them already. If you have no USB port on either, buy a new media box or a new television.
There could be a few reasons. I am guessing that you already have a "media player" type of program installed so it is likely that you need to install DVD codecs for that program. Doing a search on Microsofts website will probably get you the codecs you need if you are running their player. You may also have a driver problem, but I doubt it because your drive is reading cd's already... Hope that helps!
