Look under the vehicle and count them.
On a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer : The fuse panel is under the dash , on the drivers side
On a 2001 Mercury Mountaineer : The fuel filter is under the vehicle , below the drivers door , mounted on the frame rail
In a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer : The passenger compartment fuse panel is directly under the dash on the drivers side
There is no transmission dip stick for a 2002 mercury mountaineer, fluid will need to be checked from under the vehicle. There is a fill plug on the transmission, remove the plug and fluid level should be up to the level of the plug hole. This is the only year mercury did this in the mountaineer.
On a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer : The gas tank is under the vehicle , on the drivers side It is in front of the rear tire and runs from the rear towards the front of the vehicle
( # 24 ) is a blue color 15 amp fuse for the cigarette lighter and OBD II in a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer ( under the instrument panel )
Check the fuses under the hood on the driver's side.
According to the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer Owner Guide : In the fuse panel under the drivers side of the dash : ( # 24 is a 15 amp fuse for the cigarette lighter and OBD II )
In a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer : The 6 disc C/D changer should be in the center console ( if not look under the drivers seat )
On a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer : The passenger compartment fuse panel is under the dash , on the drivers side and the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) is located in the engine compartment , on the drivers side of the engine compartment
THE REFRIDGERANT USED IN A 98 MOUNTAINEER IS 134A. THAT INFO IS ON A STICKER UNDER THE HOOD THAT TELLS TYPE AND CHARGING CAPACITY.
The mountaineer has a fuse box under the drivers side dash ,and it has two horn fuses , right horn fuse ,and left horn fuse.
It is under the center console. Remove the console, and under that is a split in the carpet. Look uder the carpet there and you will find it.
Look under the the plastic cover on the drive side by the breaks and gas pedals
