While the body seems to have a Soul, a power that gives it life, the real truth is every cell of the body is nothing but the Soul. Every cell of the thirty trillion cells is nothing but energy. This is Soul energy. So the answer to the question is - the body doesn't have a Soul, the body is the Soul. The Soul appears as the body. This is the reality. The Soul is nothing but God energy. God manifests as you and me. The Soul is not just inside the body, the Soul is everywhere, just like air. We can blow a balloon from air that is anywhere and everywhere. When you deflate the balloon, the air in the balloon merges with the air that is everywhere . So does the Soul. At death, the body dies. Where does the Soul go? The power, the energy in the cells leaves the body and merges with the Soul everywhere. Each cell is only alive because of the Soul power.

If your interest is in what The Bible says, the word 'soul' is the English word that is substituted for the Old Testament Hebrew word 'Nephesh' meaning breathing creature (animal or man) and the New Testament Greek word 'Psuche' meaning to breath, as you will see if you look up the word in a concordance which gives you the meaning behind every word in the Bible. Therefore, if you want to know what the Bible says, its pretty easy; however, this is not what is taught in many organized religions because people want to believe the serpent's lie from the Garden of Eden that one will NOT die as a consequence of disobedience to God (sin). So, to answer your question, a person is a body sustained by the power of God (life) and will one day die as a result of being a sinful mortal. The power of God that sustained their life will return to God as told to us in Ecclesiastes 12:7. This doesn't have to be the end of the person, but his/her diligence to follow God's Word will determine that.
