The short answer is "yes", there are audition hotlines. One is by Disney, and I think it's safe to say that it's a legitimate one.
You should also know that there are many bad people out there who enjoy taking advantage of people's dreams. If a person is offering you a great job or a fabulous opportunity over the phone, you should be cautious.
1. Is the company a "known company", like Disney, or one you've never heard of?
2. Are you being asked to apply by providing the person with all your personal identifiers? Remember, that most companies do not take all that data over the phone.
3. Are you being asked for credit card information, or asked for an "interview fee", or being asked for any form of payment for anything? Real jobs do not ask you to pay them.
4. Are you supposed to meet the person at some location besides the corporation's office, either in your own town, or out of town? You should, if you go through with this, make sure a friend comes along. And know that most corporations do not have "interviews" in coffeeshops, they have them in their offices.
One could go on all day. The old rule is, "If it sounds too good to be true, it is."
Corporations must be registered in the state they are incorporated in. They should have addresses, phone numbers and staff. They should not mind honest verifications of their status.
