Is there another way to fill the radiator besides the overflow tank on a 1995 Saturn SC1?

I, too, am the owner of a 1995 Saturn SC1 and had the same question. The answer is no, not without unhooking the radiator. Sounds stupid to me, but that's the way it is!

Saturn radiators don't have caps to check and add fluid to the radiator you open the overflow tank and add it there

User Avatar

You add it to the overflow tank which is on the drivers side fender.

It will draw it in from the overflow tank when it is needed. Fill that up to the proper line.

Well the Saturn creator decided to be dumb and put only one radiator cap!! Its Its on the overflow tank (on the passenger side near the back wall of the engine bay). Its the only way to the radiator. The drain plug is underneath the radiator on the passenger side. Just rotate the petcock (you may have to pull it once rotated) then the fluid drains out. Don't forget to take the cap off of the overflow tank when draining the coolant!

there should be an overflow container on or near one of the wheel wells. that is where to add anti freeze to most newer model vehicles

my calculator says "OVERFLOW".

There isn't one. You refill the coolant with by putting more dexcool (DO NOT USE THE GREEN STUFF (ethalene glycol) ) in the coolant overflow bottle.

Technically, there is no fill cap on the radiator. To add coolant, open the overflow tank. It should be on the Passenger side fender, next to the windshield fluid tank. The coolant tank is pressurized when the engine is hot. Be very careful removing the cap to the coolant overflow if the engine has been running, since the scalding hot coolant can burn you.

If the Chevy Celebrity radiator is smaller that the Saturn radiator it might well overheat from not enough cooling capacity. If the Chevy Celebrity radiator is the same size or larger than the Saturn radiator I would think it would not over heat.

It's only radiator cap is on the coolant reservoir.

It's an aluminum radiator with plastic tanks.

The location will more than likely depend on the model of Saturn

Drain the collant from the radiator by opening the stopcock on the bottom left (looking towards the front of the car)of the radiator. Remove the cap from the overflow tank to speed up the flow. When you are ready to refill, close the stopcock and fill the system from the overflow tank. Do not use cheap coolant since the aluminum engine block corrodes more easily than a cast iron block.

A 1994 Saturn SC may not even have a radiator drainplug. In order to find out if the 94 Saturn does have a radiator drainplug, a person can take off the lower hose to see, or look in the car's manuel.

The radiator on a 1995 Saturn is flushed by draining the coolant, refilling the engine with water, and adding a flush. It is allowed to circulate and drain before refilling with coolant.

The radiator is located right behind the grill in the front of the car.

On my 1992 Saturn the radiator petcock is above the splash guard on the bottom of the radiator on the side closest to the belt. You may want to drain the radiator via the lower hose. The petcock on my Saturn came apart. The retaining clip came off of the back. I did not force it and according to the Saturn forums this happens. I am now trying to see if it can be repaired or replaced and much farther than I wanted to be from completing a quick water pump change.

I just replaced the radiator in my 97 SL2 today. What exactly are you asking? Step by step instructions?
