well there may not be physical evidence, but many people that have been very close to dying have pretty similar memories. most say that they saw themselves below as they had this out-of-body experience. most people say they saw some flowers and other beautiful things and a tunnel with a bright light at the end. these people usually say that they didnt want to leave their family, so they fought hard to get back to their body. some people believe these other people, but others dont. it really just depends on how you feel about heaven and hell yourself whether or not you believe them.

There is much scientific evidence to back up the existence of Heaven and Hell. Quantum mechanics reveals a phenomenon called quantum non-locality which is a situation at the sub atomic level where the laws of physics as we know them, do not apply. This, by definition, is what we call the SUPERNATURAL. The Bible tells us that, all around us, unseen to us, angels are battling demons on our behalf. This sounds an awful lot like alternate dimensions to me. Lazarus and the rich man were able to see each other but were unable to touch. This sounds like the partial opening of a gateway between dimensions. Quantum non-locality states that particles can communicate without using time and space. God sees everything past, present, and future. In non-linear time, all things are actually happening at the same time. Time travel is possible by using doorways between dimensions to cover vast amounts of space. The problem is that travel between dimensions requires vast amounts of energy which thus far, are only conceivable by supernatural means. The only way to cross over to the other side is by dying. Our soul is able to travel but leaves our body behind. Basically, we all will live forever, but we have our present lifetime in which to learn about the options and to choose where we want to spend eternity. Good luck in your choices.

Answer
Religious leaders use heaven/hell God and Satan as a system of punishment and reward for what they determine to be Goodness or Sin, in order to subjugate their gullible followers.
People use the words written by other men as proof of their religious theologies but never can they produce the realistic evidence as proof.
Religion gave politicians and the rich individuals the tools to control their workers and servants. Crafty individuals cleverly exploited the ultimate human fear of death. Their objective was achieved by creating an abstract concept of Heaven and Hell so that they could induce their workers to maintain loyalty and obedience through the fear of sin and death. They used natural acts of nature to authenticate their ingenuous fabrication. They convinced the gullible workers that these natural disasters were demonstrations of God's wrath upon them for their various misgivings from time to time.
There is absolutely no proof of an existence after death in places called heaven or hell just as there is no reality to the Santa Claus and the North Pole fairytale.
There are many fairytales about a brilliant/sparkling kingdom in La-La Land which is only accessible to elite members of a supremacist group. In this fairytale the rewards are reserved for the chosen (nice ones) and the condemned (naughty ones) are hurled into a blazing volcanic pit of lava.
Answer
When you ask 'is there such a thing as heaven or hell' then, if you believe in a lovely place in the clouds as heaven and a firey pit 'down there' as hell, then the answer is that neither of these exist and are medieval inventions conjured up by the likes of artists such as Bosch.

However, with regard to the Christian belief in a place called 'heaven' and another called 'hell' then they certainly do exist if you are to believe the thousands of Christian teachers, theologians and Bible scholars over the last 2000 years - and if you are to believe the teachings of Jesus Christ himself, who made it clear that such places, or states of being, exist.

But as to their nature, that is a different matter. Scripture and the teachings of Jesus Christ are not very detailed as to what heaven or hell is like. Nevertheless, we know that heaven is a place where God dwells, whether or not it is an actual place or a state of being, so it will be promote a perfect existence outside of the constraints of time (ie 'eternal') and will be a place full of joy of which we see just tiny glimpses in this life, in a smile, a beautiful sunset or a kindly word.

Hell is another matter. there are two schools of theological thought on this one. Some say that hell does exist so that those who deny God will spend eternity not in his presence as in heaven, but in a state where God does not play a part at all. In other words, if heaven is all that is good, then hell is all that is evil, torment and despair because of this absence of anything good. Other theologians believe that if God is a God of pure love then he will attempt to give everyone the chance to be with him, as the Creator force in the universe, for eternity. However, if someone chooses not to take up the offer then they bar themselves from an eternal, perfect existence - in other words they make their own hell for themselves, much in the same way as those who deny Christ in life have no real hope and expectation of eternity after it, not do they experience and accept, by their own choice, the love of God and their fellow Christians.

Jesus' teaching can be interpreted either way, so I guess we will never know this side of eternity the details of just what will actually happen but we can be pretty certain that somethingwill happen according to his teaching.

There is no proof that hell actually exists. During pre-Exilic times, Jews had no concept of hell as a place of punishment. After the return from Exile, Judaism has incorporated concepts that parallelled Zoroastrian thought of heaven as a place of reward and hell as a place of punishment, but fairly soon afterwards began to drop the notion of hell, as it was inconsistent with Jewish thought. If the founders of the Abrahamic religious tradition could not believe in hell, it does not seem to have much going for it.

Catholic AnswerThere are two major proofs that hell exists, the first is that Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, told us that it exists, and that most people go there. As Our Blessed Lord is God, and Truth, Itself, we must believe Him; as He only tells the truth for our own good. The second proof that hell exists is that most people are living in it before they die. We choose and build our own hell here on here when we refuse to believe in and follow God.

Yes, I do believe that there is a heaven and hell because the Bible says so and it has been proven historically acurate in ways such as geographic locations, the existence of people it names (Caeser and more) and the fact that many people acknowledge the existence of Jesus (I do believe he is the Messiah).

Catholic Answer

Yes, God has come from heaven to give us all the directions we need on how to get there. He did this in the first century, in Palestine, and left His Church to enable people to receive His help in the sacraments, and to attain eternal glory in heaven.

Jewish answer:

We know that what people call heaven (afterlife; spiritual reward; God's presence) is real, through tradition, through instinct and through relevant verses. See for example Genesis 15:15, Isaiah 26:19 and 66:24, Daniel 12:13, Zechariah 3:7, 1 Kings 8:30, 2 Kings ch.2, Ecclesiastes 12:7.

However, some will consider this as proof, while others see it as belief that cannot be conclusively proven.

All the evidence points to heaven and hell as no more real than God, angels or the devil.
Prior to the Babylonian Exile, the Jews believed that the dead went tosheol, a joyless existence of semiconsciousness. They returned from the Exile with some important new beliefs that parallelled those of their Persian benefactors, including belief in heaven as a place of reward for the righteous and hell as a place of punishment. While the Jews maintained their new belief in heaven, they eventually came to disbelieve in hell, a concept that Christianity had adopted and continues to maintain, as would Islam. Unless we say that Zoroastrianism, the religion of the ancient Persians, is the one true religion, heaven is not real.

I believe in neither heaven nor hell - I do not need to believe in a fictional afterlife out of fear that my eventual death will be the end for me. I do not even need to believe in a God or a saviour.

There is no proof or evidence that heaven exists. Even if there were proof that God exists, that could be seen as indirect evidence for the existence of heaven but, again, there is no proof or evidence that God exists.

In ancient times, heaven was probably necessary to religion as a promised reward for those who took part in religious rituals and worshipped God. So, belief in heaven serves an important purpose, but belief is a matter of faith, not proof. If you really believe, then proofs are not necessary.

There is no proof that heaven exists. There are a few scriptural references that provide comfort for believers who wish to hope for an afterlife, but no proof.
