Is there such thing as crayfish season in California?

In California, the season is year-around as far as Fish and Game is concerned. They're inactive and hard to catch until spring and the catch gets better until fall. If you use traps, hide them well or they will be stolen. Females caught in the spring with eggs under their tails are best released.
