No, Chester in the TV show Gunsmoke did not have a bad leg. Dennis Weaver, who played Chester, strapped a board to his leg so it would appear it was too stiff to bend it.

This is not true. Dennis Weaver refused a brace or any prop to keep his leg straight in fear he would harm himself if he fell off a horse or had some other mishap on the set.
