Ultraviolet light use, as a pool water cleaner, would be my choice for a swimming pool, and is normally placed in the water line after the water pump. It works like this, water passes by the UV light bulb and the water is sanitized, meaning is destroys bacteria, germs, viruses and other water contaminants and then any solids not oxidized are fed through the filter to be captured.

Ozone generators (ozonators) use a lower wavelength to generate ozone (O3). This erratic oxygen atom oxidizes everything that is not H2O. Although ozonators provide significant water sanitation close to the level of UV, they generate more coagulated sanitized by-products which create respiratory irritants.

Both of these systems need the water to be circulating throughout the pool which normally only occurs 8 hours or less per day. To protect the swimmer from water contaminants and safe water during the non cycle times, it is necessary to use a sanitizer in the water, normally chlorine or some variation of chlorine. By using a bio cleaner for pools you can reduce the amount of chlorine needed in the water, create a silky feeling, eliminate the problems of hair discoloration, maintain proper pH levels and keep algae from growing keeping your pool water clear and enjoyable to swim in.

UV is my choice for protection.
