It can pass from generation to generation. 60% of the patients have family history of vitiligo and remaining are dont sure that anyone in their family have vitiligo or not. It may be possible that vitiligo marks in the family history are not visible to them. But it is sure that vitiligo is a herditary disease. Yes, Vitiligo is Hereditary disease. You can't "catch" vitiligo. The most prevelant theory is that vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder and as such, the body's own immune system destroys the melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin).

Yes, Indian people can have freckles. I personally have them, and so does my mother. It's a hereditary condition, and not many do. I have only met 3 other Indians with freckles, and they too have a more Caucasian skin tone.
