The iPod line can play several audio file formats including MP3, AAC/M4A, Protected AAC (M4P), AIFF, WAV, Audible audiobook (AA and AAX), and Apple Lossless (M4A).
However, Windows Media Player doesn't natively support AIFF, DRM-free AA and AAX. In addition, it cannot decode DRM-ed audio files like M4P, AA and AAX.
To play iPod music files on Windows Media Player, you can install some 3rd-party codec packs like K-Lite Codec Pack. Another solution is to convert those music files to WMP supported format using some audio converters like HD Video Converter Factory Pro, Audacity, etc.

You can also import songs from window media to iTunes. that would be in the tool bar. labeled import audio.
--Personnally I'm looking for a dopisp alternative because when scrolling through, deleting, or otherwise manipulating my ipod's music through the Windows Media Player 11 interface it is painfully slow and laggy. When I scroll through the Artists on my 4GB nano I have to wait 4 to 6 seconds for the Windows Media Player's interface to catch up. So irritating! But I guess it does work. Its worth it not to have that even more craptacular itunes DRM forced on me.

I have used media monkey gold .. it worked well but now it cant sync my iPod classic GB .. gets hanged and wont work... so i am again in the hunt of something better

∙ 13y agoNo. Sorry, Wwindows Media Player is a Microsoft program and iTunes is a Apple program and are not compatable. The two companies are sort of like competetors.

Ipods are designed to work with itunes and only itunes. Windows Media Player, being a Microsoft product is not an official client for synching ipods. You will need to install itunes or find some alternative program for updating your ipod. There is a WMP (windows media player) plugin for synching ipods from WMP... although its not free. The link is below. In the past i have had good luck synching ipods with winamp, which is free. Also linked below.

I take it you're trying to sync songs to your player. The best thing to do would be to use Windows Media Player to create a sync list and sync the songs to your mp3 player.
