When you wake up, you should do a quick 20 minute workout, and then eat. Typically, you should eat breakfast no more than 30 minutes after waking up, and working out before breakfast is the best. You can always stick in some walking/jogging during the day, but then really workout again in the late afternoon. There is nothing that suggest this effect sleeping; there is even study to suggest it helps sleeping.

You can get the best nutrition including protein if you drink whole milk or low fat milk before workout. You would want whey protein before you workout. What brand of protein is up to you but Optimum Nutrition is one of the most popular. I would stay away from the super cheap protein from target and walmart because it usually is lower quality.

After a hard workout (like compounds), your body wants to restore, which is the best time for carbs and protein to take in. after working out (if you havent had dinner yet), have a nice dinner with a good glass of milk, have a healthy high protein snack before going to bed and rest at least 8 hours.
