Jack is one of the main characters in William Golding's novel "Lord of the Flies." He represents the savage side of human nature and embodies the desire for power and control. As the story progresses, Jack becomes a violent and tyrannical leader, leading to a destructive and chaotic society on the island.
Jack is a very selfish boy who, in the book, is obsessed with getting meat to feed everyone. He starts out as Ralph's equal, but then he takes a turn and his evil side is revealed. He is convinced that he is chief and no one can disobey him, and will do anything to prove that. He is around the same age as Ralph and has light brown hair and is very strong.

When Ralph becomes the initial leader, Jack becomes upset, for he wanted that position but instead becomes the leader of the "hunters." As structure breaks down, Jack forms his own separate sect separating from Ralph and the rest of the group. Jack is a cruel bully, who is constantly violent and threatens those below him. Jack is always ready to fight. Jack constantly attempts to weaken others. He breaks Piggy's glasses and leads the others towards Piggy's murder. He brings the boys into mass hysteria and eventually hunts Ralph down like an animal.
