The original team in Avengers #1 consisted of Thor, the Hulk, Iron Man, Ant-Man, and the Wasp. In issue #4, Captain America joined. But since he was the oldest member of the team, having fought in World War II, then it might be said that he was really the first Avenger.

The original Avengers in the Marvel comics were Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, and Wasp. They came together as a team in "The Avengers" issue #1, published in 1963.
