First thing is to remove the egr valve located under the carburetor on the passenger side.It has one vacumm line and a electrical plug connection going to it and it is mounted at a angle. It has three 10 mm bolts that hold it.Remove it and and note the metal gasket position before you pull it off the egr and clean it with carb cleaner and sand paper or wire brush and use a flat head screw driver to push the metal rod you will see move back and forth inside the assembly.Reinstall and would suggest doing a tune up wires, plugs, distributor cap, rotor button as well.If this does not help it may be time to remove the exhuast collector connected to the exhaust manifold close to the oil pan area and soak it with brake cleaner or muratic acid(use gloves for safety) and to remove this does require removing the exhaust manifold to clean and obviously replace the gasket for the exhaust manifold and disconnecting the exhaust piping that comes from the convertor from underneath.I go could go on forever but,in short try the egr cleaning first.
