Perhaps you are thinkning of the song- not really a nursery rhyme- This Old Man, also known under its commercial title of (the children"s marching song) the song was the de facto- and En route! Theme song of one of the most mis-titled movies of all time:The Inn of The Sixth Happiness, starring Ingrid Bergman. It was the ony song in the film which was NOT a musical and a very dreary drama. I said it was mis-titled. the original planned route March was (Onward Christian soldiers!) which was out of tone for the film, for obvious reasons.

It is not a nursery Rhyme, it is a juvenile song of the numerical type- This Old Man is the original title. For some reason it was retitled ( The Children"s marching Song) and was a big hit by Paul Lavalle"s Cities Service band.- the song amounted to the theme song of the move( The Inn of the Sixth Happiness) a sort of Eastern Asia well, social drama that got rather heavy, don"t be fooled by the lively song and light-hearted title- picture is a downder downder downder- though it c omes out okay. The Movie starred Ingrid Bergman. Original was about a Missionary but the religious angles were laundered out for Movie consumption- the pilgrims travelled to ( Onward Christian Soldiers) in the original story- replaced by, well .... This Old Man..

The Nursery Rhyme, "This Old Man," was first published by Anne Gilchrist in 1937. It was around before that as she reported hearing it from her Welsh nurse in the 1870's.
