Ther is no "fundamental" unit to measure mass. In the metric system, mass is measured in multiples of grams. A gram is defined as the mass of one cubic centimeter of water at 4° Celsius. The common multiples cited are kilograms (1000 grams) and milligrams (1/1000 of a gram.) Under the English imperial, system (still in use only in the United States and the oil industry) mass is measured in ounces, pounds, and tons, to name a few. 16 ounces = 1 pound, 2000 pounds = 1 ton.

Answer

In SI, the term is 'base unit', NOT 'fundamental unit', and the base unit for mass is the kilogram (kg).
