Ice cream can be traced back as far as the fourth century, but African American confectioner and former White House chef Augustus Jackson is credited with helping to perfect techniques for the modern commercial production of ice cream in 1832, as well as developing several flavours still in popular use today. While there were many other parlours and ice cream makers in Philadelphia where he set his new catering and confectionery business, Jackson was eminently successful, eventually distributing his ice creams to parlours across the state.
Augustus Jackson- Although he did not invent the formula for ice cream. He created a new formulation for ice cream making it easier to manufacture. He did so in the early 19th century and is called "the father of ice cream"
Ice cream was introduced to the United States by Quaker colonists. Confectioners sold ice cream at their shops in New York and other cities during the colonial era.
