Open the hood. There is a black plastic thing over top of the headlights that you must remove first. There is two plastic pins you must remove. One on the left and right. Once that is removed you have access to the two parts holding the headlight in. They look like old rail road ties. Its like a plastic spike. You lift those up and they pop up about a 1/2 inch or less and then the whole head light can be pulled out. Its pretty easy after that. You just turn the head lights out.
The abrasive in toothpaste is mild enough that it shouldn't seriously harm the plastic of headlight lenses. Some people have successfully removed mild headlight lens discoloration by using toothpaste, however there are commercial preparations that will do a better job but your headlights won't smell minty fresh. But if the bulb has burned out, toothpaste won't do a thing to help.

its not too difficult there is a plastic cover that needs to come off first, just requires to remove a few bolts and some plastic fasteners, once you remove those under the plastic cover there are a few more bolts which can be removed with a ratchet set. once removed the headlights come out, from the back of the headlight there is a black circular cover that you need to unscrew to pull the light out, unplug and replace if its a halogen bulb do not touch the bulb because the oil from your fingers could ruin the bulb. hope that's helpful.

The battery is located under the front fairing. There are three screws holding the plastic molding, two above the headlights, and one just between the headlights on the bottom. Remove the plastic molding. This will reveal four more screws (2 on each side). Remove these screws. Remove the four screws around the instrument panel. The instrument panel can now be removed (be careful of the wires attached). The wires attached are long enough to hang the instrument panel on the side to get to the battery.
