If the coin has no wear anywhere but on the "e" in "e pluribus unum" chances are it is a grease filled die. These are common error coins that don't sell for much of a premium, especially if it is just one letter that is off in "e pluribus unum". If the coin is well worn, most likely the "e" just wore off throughout the years.
