It depends on the sampling rate and the length of the song. The sampling rate is usually measured in kbps (kilobits per second)and has a huge range. I just bought a SanDisk 1 GB USB device last week.

I uploaded just shy of 250 songs (243) on there until it was at capacity.

So if the majority of the songs are under 4 minutes, 200 + songs is about right.
