On a 1996 Chevrolet Pick-up 1500 series how do you replace the ignition switch?

Y have to take the steering wheel off and gently take the parts inside off ( remember hoe they came off or what i do is take a photo of it ) till you see the ignition switch the should be a screw holding it in place unsrew that and you should be able to slide the old one out and put the new one in .. Mark i

You also need to remove the covering off of the steering column, to gain access to a small hole that you can sticka pick into. So that the key cylinder can be released from its housing. i believe the key must be in Run position before you stick the pick into the hole.
